Rhetoric ; Stereotypes By Paige Melendrez PHI103: Informal Logic Instructor:  Jerry Voltura July 26, 2010 Did you know that in much of the commentary you hear and in many of the articles you read, in that location could be rhetoric and stereotyping? Well, what is stereotyping and what is rhetoric? To stereotype is to make a statement about a group of wad that is non substantiated with evidence.(Parker, 2007) Rhetoric refers to the study of persuasive writing.(Parker, 2007) There argon clock when you have heard stereotyping and read rhetoric and you were completely unaware. or so common groups that get stereotyped are: politicians, tattooed people, senior citizens, and feminists. Stereotyping of politicians is something closely people have experienced and especi eithery during elections. How many clock have you watched the news during election seasons and some genius pipes up and says, Politicians are sleazy? (What kind of rhetoric causes stereotypes?, 2008) This is a stereotype. This statement uses what would be called a genetic fallacy because it associates an entire group into one type of person. Another statement that is ordinarily made which could be considered a stereotype is when people say that they are all liars and that they will stretch the truth for their own gain.

Why is it that stereotypes of politicians even be? Could it be that there have been several times when people have felt that the politician they supported did not go up to their expectations? Is it because that during campaigns it is not uncommon to view slandering ads on video between candidates and that it has perpetuated these stereotypes?
