Throughout this module I leave alone spend a 10 week period working with a learner in my area of practice, to develop the needful skill and knowledge needed. I have asked an experienced mentor to observe and guide me on my journey of become an potent mentor.
My chosen learner is a healthcare assistant before long working on the department, undertaking an associate practitioners course. She has experience within the department and healthcare setting but needs to further develop her current skill level, broaden knowledge and develop new skills. For the purposes of this essay my learner will be cognise as Beth.
Pseudo names will be use through out this portfolio to protect and maintain confidentiality of those mentioned (NMC 2008). My Mentor will be known as John. I have chosen John as he is an experienced and valued element of the team. He has been qualified many years, spending the last 7 working within the A&E department. Johns experience and guidance will aid me in becoming a competent mentor.
This portfolio will examine the steps and knowledge needed to become an effective mentor. Divided into sections it explores the preparation, assessment, planning, implementation and military rank of the process.
