Why do batch engage in aberrant and/or criminal acts? There are many answers to this question. The answers, however, go away vary depending on career, specialization, or view. These two theories may seem to overlap because crime is explained in term of the social environment, which includes the family, school, peer group, workplace, community, and society. Is it by choice that an individual broadcasts a crime? A theory that has been around for centuries and focuses on the individual traits is the Rational Choice Theory, developed by Cesare Beccaria. Based on his findings, in that respect are four elements of the classical view: (a) people chose exclusively behaviors, including criminal behavior; (b) their choices are designed to bring them joyousness and reduce pain; (c) criminal choices can be controlled by fear of punishment; and (d) the more severe, certain, and swift the punishment, the greater its cleverness to control criminal behavior.
