B.F. muleteer and Harry Harlow are two of the most influential psychologists who investigated the influences of behaviour in recent times. B.F Skinner was a behaviourist; he believed that psychology should be based on data which has been observed. Harlow to a fault used behaviourist methods in his experiments he would use soft or quantitative data found by empiric methods. B.F Skinner wanted to measure influences on behaviour in an operant conditioning environment and Harlow aimed to find out what influences bond certificate among babies. B.F Skinner became interested in Edward Thorndikes devil box (1898) Thorndike placed a hungry cat in cage and put food outside it. The cat would obtain to turn a latch on the box to forgive the door to land to the food. This interested Skinner because what happened was dependant on the cats actions. This is called subservient conditioning. Skinner was to investigate more on instrumental conditioning. Although Harlow was using the same behaviourist approach as Skinner he was not interested in instrumental conditioning.
