Ben from, The Rememberer and the angel both go thru a transformation. Ben goes from a kind to an ape to a turtle to a salamander. The angel is belittled by the storm possibly because the infant is sick. As the kidskin array better and grows up the angel gains strength as well. Their differences argon that Ben regresses toward death. The angel is initially dying then he recovers and gets his strength back.
Bens lover, Annie as well as Pelayo are the victims of the effects of the transformation. Annies relationship with Ben finally gets moving in a positive direction, and then he is only changed when he starts his transformation. As Annie orders in paragraph 6 on scalawag 340, to take care of my lover like a son, she has this completely new relationship with him. Eventually he de-evolves all the mode to a salamander and he gets to a more de-evolved state she does the only thing she can think of. This is to let him go both metaphorically and literally. Pelayos life is essentially in shambles dealing with the storm, the crabs, as well as his child being very sick. This guy with giant wings shows up and he has to deal with him. At first the angel is a nuisance to his life so he just locks him up in the chicken coop because he doesnt roll in the hay what else to do.



So he charges admission to serve well himself out financially. consequently once the newness of the angel goes away everyone forgets about him and Pelayo just tries to brood him and forget about him as well, until he finally travel away.
Both of the victim characters, Annie and Pelayo, get in over their heads and hear advice or help with their problems.
